Thankful Musings!
You know every year thanksgiving is one of my favorite times
of the year. I am not entirely sure why because for one it means winter is
almost here which I don’t appreciate at all, two it is usually very cold and
three it is very busy and there isn’t much time to relax. However the weekend
of thanksgiving always end making me feel happy and thankful for the life that I
have and the people that are in my life.
A couple things have really stuck out to me this
thanksgiving that I would love to share with you guys. One of the things that I
have been really thankful for this year is a family that doesn’t depend on the
success of their business and money for happiness. You see this fall we, as a
family are only getting about 10 to 15 percent of our regular crop of apples.
When you are used to getting 900 bins of apples from one section of your
orchard and this year only getting 150 it could be rather depressing. Out of our 800 acres there is next to nothing
to pick this year. Not just that but it is spread through all of Ontario
leaving very little to buy from other growers as well. However, this weekend I have
spent two days with my family and they don’t let it get them down. Ya, we
realize it is not good and it is going to be a hard year for many reasons but
the stuff that really matters we still have. We still have a hope in a God that
will provide. We still have each other and love everyone of them. We all believe
in a God that cares, loves, comforts, and holds on to us even when it might not
make sense to us. So every time that I spent with the family this weekend there
were laughs, smiles and jokes. What kind of get together would we have had this
year if all we had to live for was the success of our business? How would that
have changed the atmosphere? I can only imagine! I love my family and wouldn’t trade
any of them.
With that thought in mind another thing I have thought about
this weekend a bit is my cousin, Trent. You
see recently, someone we know had a son that was just diagnosed with cancer at
the age of three which was exactly the age Trent was when he had the same kind
of cancer. This made me think just a bit about how lucky I am to have Trent in
my life still today 16 years later. Trent has always been there with me through
every age of life. It started back before school when we were playmates to
after we are both out of school and work together in the family business. We
our only three days apart and there are very few birthdays we have not
celebrated together. Trent is one of the most important people in my life and
this Thanksgiving I want to thank God for my Trent.
A third thing I am especially thankful for is the grace and
forgiveness God has promised to me. I know I mess up so many times and I am so
thankful that God will let me start over and try again. I hope someday I will be able to forgive
others like he forgives me.
If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from
all unrighteousness.
Repent, then, and
turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may
come from the Lord,
In him we have
redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the
riches of God's grace
Praise The Lord!!!!
