The Week of no Wisdom!
Well it finally happened. The doctors stole my wisdom. It wasn't a question of may i have your wisdom. It was just, you got let us take your wisdom from you! After two years of appointment after appointment to let the orthodontist poke around at my teeth and tighten those metal brackets and make my mouth sore I finally finished. They took them off! Then at my very last appointment they said, "Well Trish, you are done here but those wisdom teeth got to go!" I was like, OK great! I was just thinking how much I was going to miss having people digging around at my teeth. I was hoping I wasn't done.
Well a few months later they finally got me booked in. I went in for my consultation where they ask you all those questions that you just sit there and say no to. Or I always do. I have them pretty much memorised. However this guy asked a few more then normal. Over a dozen questions. Do you smoke? no. Do you have any allergies? no. Do you have any heart problems? no Have you ever been put under before? no. I was hoping I could answer yes to just one question. Just to switch things up. Maybe the last question. "Are you pregnant?" nope. so much for that. Well after that exciting appointment I got booked in for the surgery a few weeks later. Thank goodness for Dad's insurance cause apparently getting your teeth taken out is very very expensive.
Well, on Monday, February 4th was the day. My appointment wasn't until 2:45 and I wasn't aloud to eat before then. My aim was to sleep as long as I could cause I figured if I was sleeping I wouldn't realise that I was very hungry. This worked quite well. I slept till about 11 and was only very hungry from 12 to 2. My mom took me down to the dental surgeon that afternoon.
When I got to the office, the receptionists were all very friendly. They asked me if I was excited and glad to be there and such and of course I told them there was no other place I would rather be. They thanked me for my honesty. I hope they realised I was being sarcastic. Next they took me into the room. They started to hook me up to machines and explained that this one was to monitor my heart, this one was to monitor my breathing, this was an IV and this one was to see how deep sleep I was in. All this time they were asking me about work and apples cause they apparently shop at Martin's. The Doctor said that he was putting the sleeping medicine in me and that it worked quite fast. I was like OK and that was the last thing I remember saying. WOW! crazy feeling really! The next thing I knew I was waking up in a different room on a different bed. Its kind of creepy. You really have no idea what they all did to you while you were asleep. At this point they got my mom in there cause they claimed I wouldn't remember much of what they told me there. I did though. They underestimated me I think. I got to leave a bit later.
That evening wasn't much fun. Mostly just bloody and sore. The next day wasn't too bad but by Tues night it hurt. I took the strong medicine before bed. I took it again wed morning. However after taking it then I vowed not to again cause it made me too dizzy I could barely walk. I decided to cope with the pain and stick to the not so strong medication. By tonight now it is feeling better and I plan on getting back to work asap. my mouth still looks like a chipmunk. I do hope that goes away soon cause I am not convinced it is the best look on me.
I got a wonderful green frog from my siblings and a hoops and yo yo card and starbursts. The starbursts was my sister's boyfriends idea. He thought it would be funny cause I wouldn't be able to eat them for a long time. He is so thoughtful sometimes.
I also had a great visit from my couch friend. We are so good at sitting on couches so it doesn't matter if one of us has fat cheeks and a sore mouth and the other has a head cold. We can still hang out. Its just such a good friendship to have.
Well I am getting sick of noodles, and soup and jello and yogurt so I will be thrilled to eat good solid food again soon.
For all of you who haven't got your wisdom teeth out yet, Its not so bad really. More of an annoyance than anything. For all of you who have, Aren't you glad that's done?

and that is the beauty of a friendship that revolves around hanging out on couches. you had your wisdom teeth taken out? no problem! it won't interfere with our plans... b/c you can hang out on a couch with or without your wisdom teeth! and i can only breath through my mouth and feel sleepy all the time? the couch is the perfect place to be. as long as we are there together! ;)
