Why I am a Christian Woman
Recently I heard
some remarks to the extent of, Why would you want to be a woman and a
Christian? A guy I understand. They can do whatever they want. They have
complete control. Being a Christian guy would be awesome, but being a woman and
a Christian makes no sense.
I pondered this for
a while. The remarks were of course due to people picking random things from
the Bible without actually taking it in context. They claimed that women are
treated as property in the Bible and are of a lesser value than a man. While I
didn’t agree, I began to think about why I am a Christian Woman and these are
some thoughts I came up with.
I love to analyze. I
analyze too much probably. (just ask Colin) So one of the things I analyze is
the differences between women and men. The differences in the way we think, act
etc. and the more I analyze it the more I am amazed at how God created us so
differently but so very much compatible to match. Over and over again in
creation I keep seeing little details in God's creation that He placed there so
perfectly just so that things work right. I see the differences in men and
women an example of this. The world couldn’t run without both of them.
I think about in the
New Testament where God talks about women's and men's roles. He places men as
the head of the families and churches. With this responsibility he has given
them the ability and usually the desire to lead. While there are females that have
some of the leadership characteristic as well, God has placed a desire in each
lady to be led. The whole idea that men can do whatever they want cause they
have complete control is wrong! You have to finish the chapter! In Ephesians 5
versus 22- 24 talk about wives submitting to their husbands. That is only three
verses..If you go to read this you will notice that the next 9 verses are
talking to the husband. The husband is supposed to love his wife more than
himself! If a man fills his role, then the woman submitting to him is possible
and actually will probably work out in her favour as well.
I think more about
the comments I heard about being a Christian woman and meaning you are of
lesser value. Galatians 3:28 pops into my head instantly. "There is
neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male or female,
for you are all one in Christ Jesus." God doesn’t look down on you cause
you are female. All are equal in his eyes.
I think about
different women in the Bible that God used to do amazing things. A few examples
are Mary and Esther and there are many more!
I think of the men
in my life that God has placed there to lead me. I think of my dad and how many
times I have went to him for answers. I think of my brother and how many times
he has encouraged me and was strong for me when I needed him to be. I think of
Colin and how he listens to me, respects
me and offers advice. I think of the way these men are there to protect me.
(Another perfect detail God placed in men was the protective nature of girls in
their lives where in woman the desire to be protected.) And while sometimes
they fail in their roles and I fail in mine, ultimately if we try to live our
the positions God has created for us, our relationships flourish.
So why am I a
Christian woman you ask? I am a Christian woman because Jesus died on the cross
for me! Jesus gave His life so I could be saved. I am a Christian woman because
how else could I be a daughter of a king? You know what a daughter of a king is
called? It’s a princess. How many girls don't want to be a princess? I am a
Christian woman because as a woman I have a desire to be protected, be loved,
be cared for and be respected. My heavenly Father not only does all these
things but has placed men in my life to do all these things. I am Christian
woman because I know God has made me that way for a reason and is using or will use me for a purpose just like He did
Esther. And lastly I am a Christian woman because the more I learn and see the
lives of people who decide to live without Christ the more I am thankful for
what Christ has done for me. With Christ all my desires, wants and needs are
fulfilled. Without Him I have nothing.
I thank the men in
my life for allowing me to see how being a woman in Christ is worth it. I thank
them for being brave enough to accept their role so that I could easier accept
mine. But most of all I thank God for being my perfect Father!
