Lies Can be Conquered by the Truth!

One of the first things our parents have to teach us as young children is that we are not allowed to tell a lie. They push this over and over again. The younger we were the more obvious the lie is. They might ask you if you ate a cookie when you knew you weren't supposed to. You obviously did as there are crumbs all over your face but you tell them you didn’t. As you get older you get more sneaky and smart with your lies. You get better at hiding things. This is when if we have a disciplined conscience it will kick in and make us feel bad for lying.

However, as we grow older, lies are still not taken away from our lives. We may not deal with lying in a way that we did as a child but instead we have lies bombarded at us from the biggest deceiver ever. Satan has had years and years of practice in lying. Satan is good at it. Satan can get us to believe all kinds of things. It is important we catch these lies being fed to us when they are young or else we will quickly not notice what kind of things we are believing that we shouldn’t. So often I find that I have again accepted a new lie from Satan.

How do we fight these lies? The opposite of lies is truth and we can use truths to fight these lies.
Where do we find truth? John 17:17 - ….Thy word is the truth. The Bible is the truth and in it we can find all kinds of truths that counteract the lies Satan throws at us.

Following are some examples of lies Satan tries to mix into our thinking with some truths to battle against them.

  1. Lie: I am ugly
    1. Truth: Gen 1:27 - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
  2. Lie: I can't do it
    1. Truth: Phil 4:13 - I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
  3. Lie: Its all about me
    1. Truth: Gal. 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  4. Lie: I am not important
    1. Proverbs 16:4 - The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
  5. Lie: Nobody loves me
    1. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
  6. Lie: I have sinned too much to be saved
    1. Truth: 1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    2. Truth: Psalm 103:12 - As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
  7. Lie: I am not normal
    1. Truth: Psalm 139:14 -I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
  8. Lie: I do not belong
    1. Truth: Psalm 100:3 -Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

There are many more verses that speak truth to these particular lies. When struggling with a lie lets learn to ask God to show us the truth in the book of truth that He has given to us.

Final thought:  John 8:32 - Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
