A Covenant Exchange
This past weekend me and two other of my friends did a girl’s
weekend using dvd’s done by Leslie Ludy for her set-apart weekend. We would
watch the sessions and then discuss them after. What I have been thinking a
lot about over this past week from the weekend is how God has asked us to
completely give up every aspect of our life and let him take complete control.
He asked us to forsake everything and trust Him.
Is this really possible? Am I at this point yet? Nope, but I
hope to get there. But see its not something that you just do once. Leslie uses
the illustration of letting God have to the pen to write your life story. She
talks of how you might hand it over to Him but the very next day you find you
have grabbed it back and again need to dedicate back to Him. Its continual.
These are a few of the quotes I heard over the weekend that
really stuck out to me:
“What does it mean to be a Christian? Your life is hid with
Christ; you are not your own. You have no time of your own; no money of your
own; Christ mist become your complete Master.” Leonard Ravenhill
“There are some who would have Christ cheap. They would take
Him without the Cross. But the price will not come down.” Samuel Rutherford
“It is tremendous freedom to get rid of all
self-consideration and learn to care about only one thing – the relationship
between Christ and ourselves.” Oswald Chambers
Some of the things to ask if he has complete control over in
our life are:
1./ my relationships2./my romantic desires
3./my free time
4./my talents
5./my dreams for the future
6./my friendships/popularity
7./my possessions
8./my physical body
Some verses:
Whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My
disciple. Luke 14:33
Or do you know that...you are not your own? For you were
bought at a price. 1 Corinthians 16:19-20
He must increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30
He said to them, “Whosoever desires to come after Me, let
him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)
And there are many more!
I want to get to the
point where in my life where I think first of God, second of others and lastly
of myself. I want God to have complete
control over every aspect of my life. God never said following Him is going to
be easy but when we consider what He has done for us and we consider the reward
we get for doing what He has asked this should look easier. God deserves
control over each of us. After all He did create us. Without Him we are
nothing.
This is a prayer that was Quoted this past weekend and this
is a prayer I would like to pray as well.
“My Lord, I have mistreated You all my life. I have treated
you like a servant. When I wanted You, I called for you; When I was about to
engage in something important I beckoned you to come and help me perform my
task. I have sought to use you only as a servant to help me in my self-appointed
work. I will do so no more.
Lord, I give you this body of mine; from my head to my
feet, I give it to you. My hands, my limbs , my eyes, my brain; all that I am
inside and out, I hand over to you. Live in and through me whatever life you
please. You may send this body to Africa....you may blind my eyes or send me
with your message to Tibet. You may take this body to the Eskimos, or send it
to a hospital bed. This body of mine is yours alone from this moment on.”
